He obtained his
Journeyman Carpenter status in 1982 and started his own framing company in 1984. In the early 1990’s John framed a project for Colson and Colson, a large independent living facilities developer in the U.S. The success of the project resulted in John becoming the company’s exclusive framer. During the next ten years, Hunt Builders built more than 400 senior retirement communities in the U.S. and Canada for Colson and more than 60 hotels for Marriott and Extended Stay America. Hunt Builders supervised and supplied all labor and framing materials, including wall panels from wholly owned facilities in Alberta and Ontario, Canada. In 2000, Hunt Builders was acquired by a large U.S. component manufacturer and worked for them until 2004 when he bought out his non-compete to start Colt Builders. Since then, Colt Builders has framed thousands of multi-family projects in Western Canada
Blair Nutting –Vice President Mill Frame Inc. (Canda)
Blair has a Structural Engineering Degree from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. He has extensive experience with wood frame construction, Engineered Wood Products design and value engineering. Blair started his career with Nascor in Calgary, Alberta, in 1991. Nascor Manufactured insulated wall panels, and Blair helped the company to manufacturer its trusses and wood I-Joists. After a three-year stint inAustralia, Blair returned to Nascor, where from 1996 to 2002 he marketed Nascor's I-joist, wall panel and roof truss manufacturing technology. He was successful in licensing plants in Australia, Scotland, Russia, Turkey and other facilities in the U.S. and Canada. In 2002, Blair moved to Las Vegas to work for Steve Conboy, owner of Framing Systems Inc. Blair and Steve set up an engineered wood cutting and packaging facility in Southern California and experienced great success with local builders, due to their ability to value engineer the floor systems.Blair went to work with Centex Homes in 2003 and was responsible for revising floor systems, which increased floor performance and reduced costs. Blair returned to Canada in 2011. In November of 2014, John Hunter and Blair started Precision Structural Components, a wall panel plant in Calgary, Alberta, and have supplied more than 2,500 multi-family units from this facility.
Wally McCool – Site Superintenden
Wally started framing for Hunt Builders in 1992. He quickly showed his leadership skills and soon started managing projects in Canada. In 1996, he then started managing projects for Hunt in the U.S. In his first project, Wally managed more than 100,000 square feet in Des Moines, IA, and it was very successful. From 1996 to 2002, he supervised the framing of more than 50 projects throughout the United States, all of which exceeded one million dollars in value. He supervised projects for Colson & Colson, Avalon Bay, Extended Stay America and Marriott. Wally is currently supervising multi-family framing projects for Colt Builders in and around Calgary, Alberta and is excited to manage projects in U.S. again.
Shaun Conboy - On Site Framing Foreman
Shaun our Foreman has been leading framing crews on production houses, hotels and multi-family for 8 years. He was hand selected to be trained as a foreman by some of Las Vegas and California largest framing companies. He is a great lead guy on any site he has a great ability to get along and motivate the production framing teams and it proves to expedite every part of the framing process. This guy is one of those Millenniums that dropped out of college to pursue construction as a serious career path. Shaun is now considered a Master Carpenter from framing to finish.
Jeff Waldbauer – Site Superintendent
Jeff has been framing since 1991. He started framing single family houses and after six years enrolled in structural engineering technology at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology from 1995 to 1997. He then went back to framing but switched to Multi-Family and commercial structures. He started his own company in 2008 and began working as a superintendent for John Hunter in 2012. Jeff has built over 1.5 million square feet of wood frame structures over his career and is a top performer at Colt Builders/ Mill Frame Inc.
Rod Erdos – EWP manager, Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada
Rod is a Red Seal Carpenter with over 30 years’ experience in the building industry. He was the truss plant manager for John Hunter’s facility outside of Calgary, Alberta from 1997 to 2001 at the height of John’s United States turnkey framing business. Since then he has been production manager, design manager, sales manager and branch manager at a very large Alberta-based structural component manufacturer. Rod will manage all aspects of the Engineered Wood processing facility in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
Lisa Hodges – Controller and office manager, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Lisa Hodges has been working in the financial sector since 1989. Her career began with a large financial banking institution and continued for 8 years dealing with commercial and personal lending. From there she opened her own multi-million dollar successful auto-recycling business. During her 10 years of self-employment, she gained the skills of managing employees, inventory, sales and all aspects of the day to day finances. After closing the auto recycling business, she embarked in a new direction of multi-family framing joining John Hunter by managing all the financial aspects of his companies. Her career now entails estimating, budgeting, cash flow, safety, payroll, administration, web design, bookkeeping and accounting for the commercial framing industry. She is a team player that is extremely organized and highly motivated with a gift for solving complex problems and managing situations in a fast paced environment by building a successful productive and profitable workplace.
